If God is Sovereign …
Jeremiah 12

Intro:    Both a philosophical and personal issue (Job 21:7, Hab. 1:2-4)

1.    Why do the wicked prosper? (vs 1-6)

a)    Jeremiah affirms God is righteous (vs 1)
b)    Jeremiah struggles with an apparent contradiction:
i)    God has planted them (vs 2)
ii)    Yet, they are his/His opposition (vs 3-4; Isa. 29:13)
c)    The answer is found in:
i)    Jeremiah’s question of “How long” (vs 4a)
ii)    In God’s answer (vs 5-6 ~ cf. 11: 21-23;)
o    Shape up! (vs 5)
o    Cheer up! (vs 6)
2.    Why are God’s people in a pathetic state? (vs 7-13)
i)    God has lifted His protective presence (vs 7-12; Heb 12:6)
ii)    God hopes shame would bring repentance (vs 13; Hos 8:7)

3.    Why would God give hope to the wicked? (vs 14-17)
a)    God is compassionate (vs 15; Isa 56:6-8, James 3:16-17, 2 Pet 3:9)
b)    God requires allegiance (vs 16-17)
Conclusion: (Rom. 8:28) When God’s timing and purpose are accounted for, every detail of our life is orchestrated  perfectly
