1. To the SINNER, Jesus comes alongside to free from condemnation; while driving away the self-righteous
a. This is a woman
b. The law is clear (Deut 22:2-24)
c. The legalists were transparent in their motives - entrapment (vs 6); and revealing in their sin (vs 9a)
d. Rather than embarrass Jesus gives hope (vs 11; cf. 5:14)
e. Where the law corners , grace frees (John 10:7-10, Rom 5:20)
2. To the FAILURE / LOSER, Jesus restores to a greater purpose
a. The restoration is personal (John 21:15-19; Acts 15:39)
b. The outcome greater than the original fiasco (Acts 2:4f, Acts 11:1-18; Col 4:10, 2 Tim 4:11)
3. What’s revolutionary about Jesus? Is this a “revolution”?
1. Jesus is a radical threat to all institutions (Luke 4:18-21)
2. This is an upheaval of a sinful heart, and not a system
3. The power is not in a numerical majority; it is an ‘act of God’ (Luke 4:18, Acts 1:8, 4:31, I Thess. 1:5, I Cor. 4:20, Zech 4:6-7)
4. The purpose is a new Kingdom (Matt 19:24, Mark 1:5, John 3:3, Rom 14:17, Rev. 11: 14-16)
